How to become a Canadian citizen?

There are many people who want to become citizens of Canada, a rich country with a high standard of living and welfare. The Canadian government is also interested in attracting migrants to the country.

Who is eligible to become a Canadian citizen?

You can apply to become a Canadian Citizen:

  • If you are a permanent resident;
  • If you have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years of your life;
  • If you are a taxpayer;
  • If you have language skills;
  • If you have knowledge of Canada (enough to pass the citizenship test);
  • You must take an oath of citizenship;

Note: If you have committed a crime in Canada or elsewhere, you are not allowed to apply for Canadian citizenship while you are in prison, on probation, or on parole.

Permanent resident status

If you want to apply for Canadian Citizenship, you must have permanent resident status in Canada. (Regardless of your age) It is recommended that you review the documents you received when you were a permanent resident before applying for citizenship. If you do not have a valid PR card, you can also apply with your previous PR card. You may not apply if there are any conditions associated with your PR status that you have not met.

Time you have lived in Canada

One of the main conditions for applying for citizenship is time you have lived in Canada. So you must have lived in Canada for at least 3 years, or 1,095 days, in the 5 years prior to the date of your Application. (It is recommended to exceed 1,095 days in order to avoid any problems with the calculation of this period.)

Filling income tax

You must be a taxpayer for at least 3 of the 5 years prior to the time you apply for citizenship. And you must have fulfilled your obligations fully and correctly.

Language skills

The official official languages of Canada are French and English. Under the terms, applicants between the ages of 18 and 54 must speak and understand English or French to apply for citizenship. That is, you must be able to answer the questions. You need to use simple grammar rules to understand simple instructions and have enough vocabulary to express yourself. The final decision on the adequacy of your language skills will be made by the official appointed during your citizenship application. Various international diplomas and certificates are also accepted as proof of language skills.

Citizenship test

You must pass a test designed for you to measure your eligibility for citizenship. The exam is usually organized in writing, but in special cases you can participate in an oral exam given by an officer. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 54 should take this exam. During the exam, you must answer questions about the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens, the economy, geography, history, Canadian government, Canadian laws and symbols. Depending on your preference, you can take the exam in English or French. You have to answer at least 15 of the 20 questions correctly within 30 minutes.

Take the oath of citizenship

If your application is approved, you must take the citizenship oath if you are at least 14 years old.
